Children and Aikido were made for each other. There are different drills than you find in other martial arts practice, instead we practice ukemi (falling) and technique much the same as in adult practice. Aikido is a "hands on" martial art that deals with confrontation and aggression in non-combative ways. The training works the mind and body coordination to help the child function in a more complete manner. Example : if you think you can do a physical act, you will be able to, once your mind and body is functioning together. Children training in Aikido learn confidence, flexibility of mind and body, self defense, and balance of mind and body. Aikido teaches the child that they can advance and gain strength and skills without the attitudes and competition that is found in other martial arts. The great thing is that girls and boys can train and advance together since physical strength is not the necessary component for advancement. |
